THE New Venture Theatre Company’s production of Rose has been named as best production in the first full length drama competition held by the Brighton and Hove Arts Council, writes Mike Howard.

There were six entries for the competition and each was judged by playwright and lecturer J. Barry Roach who lives in Brighton.

The six entries were See How They Run by the Southwick Players, Waiting in the Wings by the Sackville Players, Rose by New Venture Theatre, Separate Tables by the Prospect Drama Group, Quartermaine’s Terms by the Ditchling Players and Ring Round the Moon by the Wick Theatre Company.

Runner-up in the competition was the Wick Theatre Company’s Ring Round the Moon by Jean Anouilh which also won the award for the best set design.

The special adjudicator’s award went to the Prospect Drama Group for their production of Terence Rattigan’s Separate Tables.
